Back in April, a small committee of parents and church leaders from the
Garden Grove 2nd Samoan Ward (my home ward, woohoo!) collaborated and put together a 2 day event based on the Samoan Culture. The Youth & Young Single Adults took part in this and learned and performed dances & music. They were even able to watch demonstrations of doing an umu (cooking a pig), preparing taro, fa'i, palusami, taking part in an ava ceremony, learning how to start a fire, weave a basket, and other day to day activities that are still being practiced in the islands today. I feel so privileged to have been part of such a great event. The photos really don't do enough justice of how awesome this event was. On a side note, it always feels good learning more about my own heritage and embracing it with others.
Flyers that were made for the event:
The city of Garden Grove even came to check us out!

We even made a fun promotional
video! Shout out to Nahdia Malio for all of her help with this.
